Organization 101: Ink Pad Label Sheets
Continuing our Organization 101 series... also known as "How to Make Room for Even More Ranger Goodies!!"
Did you know that we offer free Ink Pad Label Sheets on the rangerink.com website? These sheets, available for Adirondack, Archival, Distress, and Jenni Bowlin for Ranger ink pads, are formatted to be printed on an Avery 5267 label sheet (or anything with a similar label size: 1¾" x ½", 80 labels per sheet).
All you have to do is download the PDF (you'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it) and print it directly onto a label sheet. Then just stick the labels onto the sides of your ink pads for easy organization. You'll be able to stack your ink pads or store them on a shelf and still be able to easily retrieve any color you want!
And, if you want to get really fancy-dancy you can always ink the labels themselves to have a color reference as well as the name of the ink on the side of the case. (EDIT: for dark colors you might want to just edge the label with the ink so the type is still legible.)
How do you keep your ink pad stash neat and tidy? Share your favorite organization tip in the comments!
I love the idea of being able to know what ink pad I'm looking at.....but I had not even thought about inking them too. LOVE IT

LOVE THIS! I have been wanting to do something like this for my ink pads...just have gotten lazy. Love the idea of inking on the labels! Cool idea. Mind are stacked on my desk and i go through the stack to find the one I want. this would definitely help that process.

I like the idea of coloring the labels.

i've inked a bit of label and stuck it on the side of my ink pads - before i knew that there were printed labels with the names! - might have to redo that....but for now it's working for me. i've got mine stored in an old cassette tape box, i've torn out the inside of the box (the ink pads fit perfectly as well as some of the reinkers) and since it has a handle and a closure on it, i can take all my inks with me for crops....

ink pads neat and tidy? This is an alien concept to me....but I love the idea of color and name on the tag!

OMGosh, I have been doing this manually with address labels and handing writing the name. I just rubbed the label with the ink pad to the right of the name for reference. Then, I adhered the label upside down on the inkpad so I can store them upsdide in my metal case and keep the moisture on the top of the pad. I have found that the only issue is finding which side the label is on when reshelving so that the label is facing out. Now I think I will just print out these labels and add them to all sides of the pads so I don't have to do that. Thanks for making our crafting lives for fun and easy!

I turn my ink upside down (ink towards the top rather than the bottom) and took a scrap piece of paper and just inked the color on it and stuck it to the bottom. That way I can just pull them out and look at the color to see what works best with whatever project I am working on. Guess I'm more of a visual person. Plus, they are nice and juicy when I flip them over and use them.

I can't wait to get home and do this for my distress inks. It's sooooo awesome!

I store mine in a wooden, cassette holder. they fit perfectly in. The Versamark inks fits great in there too. I have them labeled also but I just printed out these labels and will ink them too. I love the inking idea. Why didn't I think of that??!

mine are just labeled with a color swatch. my current system of keeping my favorites in a drawer of a plastic storage unit and the rest in the inkpad case just isn't working well since the new colors came out. i am looking for a new, open mini-shelf system to keep on my desk and within easy reach.

I do something similar with my distress crackle paint - since I store them upside down and can't see the name/label, I started making 'sticker blobs' which shows the name and actual color blobbed onto the sticker. Putting a bit of the actual color onto the label makes so much sense!

I have mine in an old wooden stand with slots in it. I found it at a thrift store and it fits about 40 stamp pads, all with my own labels w/the colors on them. LOVE having all my PRECIOUS RANGER/Tim Holtz stamps at my fingertips!

Now I find this out after I took my label maker and made labels for each one. I will be using this from now on when I add to my collection which is quite often.

I use my husband's paper lable maker, but this sounds so much easier! And the color idea? Geez, how great is that?!?!?!
Posted by: Linda Cain | August 18, 2010 at 03:03 PM
I use my dymo. I also store my ink pads up side down, so I put the labels on that way too....

So the perfectionist in me is shouting out "Why do the labels use capital letters, not small letters as on the ink pads?"
Also I would love a pdf file with the colours (I'm English) already on it?
I'm obviously having a fussy day.

Thank you for pointing me to this! I never knew you had this facility on your website. I just pile my stamps up and then keep having to rummage for the one I want.

I love your free labels and I use all of your tips, above.
Since I like to store my dye ink pads upside-down, I put the labels on after turning my pads upside-down. This way, the pads are upside-down, but the text is right-side up. Clear as mud?
